The Wright brothers are world renowned for taking to the air and proving powered flight was possible and practical. But their December 17, 1903 flight would never have happened without the gliders they constructed to prove their theories. Writing for the Outer Banks Voice, Michelle Wagner penned this great piece about replacing the Wright Brother’s glider at the N.C. Museum of History in Raleigh.
“The history of the Wright brothers will live on in the N.C. Museum of History now that the full-scale reproduction of the 1911 glider soars above the atrium after years of the foyer being vacant.
A $150,000 grant by the local First Flight Foundation made it possible for the museum to purchase the flyer and suspend it above the entranceway during a recent dedication at the Raleigh museum.”
