We love getting the ferry to Ocracoke and are proud to share this article by the Ocracoke Current about a North Carolina ferry crew receiving the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Safety and Heroism. Last September, the crew rescued two people in rough seas off of Ocracoke Island. John and Renee Hoffman’s sailboat was capsized by deteriorating weather conditions when the M/V Cedar Island came to their rescue, pulling the Hoffman’s from the water and onto the ferry amid cheers from passengers onboard.

“We could not be more proud of this ferry crew,” said North Carolina Ferry Division Director Ed Goodwin. “Our crews are well trained to respond to emergency situations on the open water, and in this case that training and this crew’s bravery saved two lives. These people deserve every bit of recognition they’re getting today.”
