As Outer Banks towns move to keep their beaches free from tents, beach chairs and debris left on the beach at night, there is a wee bit of confusion about the rules. Writing for the Outer Banks Voice, Sam Walker takes a look at how Nags Head is enforcing their new ordinance that prohibits leaving equipment on the beach after 8 p.m.
“Visitors and officials in Nags Head are still getting used to implementing rules that ban beachgoers from leaving tents, chairs and other equipment on the sand overnight.
While there are no totals available for how many tags have been placed on items found on the beach by lifeguards, public works employees have picked up and disposed of around 20 tent frames per week.
Town officials have tried to work with visitors to prevent from having to take that measure.”
