Sun, surf & sand provide perfect start to peak season.
Summer has come to the Outer Banks and what a spectacular beginning it has been. Warm sand, bright sunshine and a cool but not quite cold ocean. The surf’s been a bit choppy, but that’s a good reason to swim by the lifeguard stands.
We know the first official day of summer is June 21, but Memorial Day weekend has marked the beginning of the summer season for at lest a couple of generations now, so who are we at Hidden Outer Banks to argue the point.
There’s a lot to celebrate this year heading into the summer.
It looks as though Ocracoke is getting a much needed shot in the arm with the introduction of a high speed passenger only ferry that will dock in Silver Lake. Big kudos to NCDOT for getting that one done.
Since we’re on the subject of Ocracoke, it seems Dr. Beach, Dr. Stephen Leatherman of Florida International University, has ranked the Ocracoke Lifeguarded Beach as #2 on his top ten US beaches.
It’s not the first time Outer Banks beaches show up in the Dr. Beach rankings—in fact, they’re a regular part of them.
There’s more of great news for the upcoming season. The new Marc Basnight Bridge is pretty amazing. Duck has finished their muli-use path improvements which are pretty significant. With a bike path separate from the sidewalk, it’s taking pedestrian friendly to new level.
Mostly, though, the Outer Banks is what it has always been…a great place to dig your toes into the sand, take a deep breath, listen to the sound of the surf and just relax.
