Thirty-nine years later and Kitty Hawk Kites still honored a “wind check’, which is kind of like a rain check. Edie Holsopple and her sister finally got to finish the flying they started on a not-so-windy day back in 1976. Bill Lohmann of the Richmond Times-Dispatch has some fun telling the story.
“They didn’t plan to take so long between flights, but the receipt went missing and they forgot about it — until Holsopple and husband, Curt, were moving from one house to another in Hopewell last year. There, hidden on a bookcase, was the little flight handbook from all of those years ago with a brochure tucked inside with the receipt stapled to it.
Holsopple was 22 back then; she is 61 now. Yet, her first reaction upon finding the receipt was, “Let’s do it!”
