history is haunted @ the lost colony

The Lost Colony totally upped their game in October of 2013 by turning the Waterside Theatre site into a scary PsychoPath after their summer show closed for the season. It was such a hit, they’ve made it a regular fall feature. This spring they are delighting us with Haunted History, an interactive adventure about the OBX’s… Continue reading history is haunted @ the lost colony

what’s with all the seals on obx beaches?

Harbor seal photo by Debra Rothrock.

Seals are pretty cute and playful, so it’s been fun to see their smiling faces turning up on our Outer Banks beaches from Carova to Ocracoke. While I did notice that more seals seemed to be turning up every winter, I didn’t think to wonder why. Well, Jared Lloyd has been giving the seals a LOT… Continue reading what’s with all the seals on obx beaches?

These days folks seem a bit more realistic about the things that share the ocean with us, and… Continue reading SHARK! katharine the great white visits obx again

The Ocracoke ponies have a long and colorful history on the island, documented since the 1730’s. The ponies worked with the islanders, pulling carts and making beach patrols. They played too, roaming free when they weren’t running races or toting Boy Scouts around:  in the 50’s the Ocracoke Scouts were the only mounted troop in the nation!… Continue reading meet the newest ocracoke pony!
