May to September marks OBX beach nourishment time
May will mark the beginning of the beach nourishment project in the towns of Duck, Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills, and maybe a small section of Southern Shores. According to experts from the companies that will be rebuilding the beaches, the project should be done by mid September. Rob Morris, writing for the Outer Banks Voice, gives the details of a series of town hall meetings.
“Bulldozers will begin rumbling onto the beach in late May as widening projects in three towns get under way.
Visitors and residents can expect 1,000-foot stretches at a time to be closed through September as dredges pump sand from offshore onto the beaches in Duck, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and possibly Southern Shores.”
