FEMA denies individual assistance for ocracoke

FEMA decision seems to defy logic and common sense

As families on Ocracoke struggle to rebuild lives and homes torn apart by Hurricane Dorian’s storm surge, FEMA has determined that the damage was neither significant enough nor so widespread that households and individuals qualify for additional FEMA assistance. The ruling is being appealed. The Outer Banks Voice has the story.

After the record setting storm surge of Hurricane Dorian, everything inside a home must be thrown out.

“North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper is expressing disappointment with FEMA’s decision to deny his request for federal assistance to individuals and households that suffered damage due to Hurricane Dorian. In conveying its decision, FEMA said that damage was not “of such severity and magnitude” to approve the funding.”
