In preparation for the coming winter season, N.E.S.T. is holding a Fiesta for Sea Turtles fundraising event on Saturday, November 2, at 6 pm. This FUN evening is happening at the Hilton Garden Inn with a cocktail/social hour featuring Margaritas and Dos Equis and a delicious Mexican Buffet. Dinner will be followed by a Bingo tournament with multiple cash prizes.
The Network for Endangered Sea Turtle (N.E.S.T.) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and protection of Sea Turtles and other marine animals. Their mission is to monitor the habitats and migration routes of the Outer Banks of North Carolina from the Virginia border to the Oregon Inlet. They depend entirely on volunteers and fundraising to financially support this daunting task.
The greatest expense for N.E.S.T. is the veterinary care and rehabilitation of stranded sea turtles. During the winter months, many turtles will wash up on the beach in distress and in need of medical assistance. The turtles are “coldstunned”, which is the term used for the metabolic
shutdown of the turtles body systems in reaction to exposure to cold water temperatures. During a major event, such as they experienced last winter, it is not unusual to have as many as 40 turtles in their care at one time.
Individual tickets are available for $42 in advance at www.splashthat.com/FiestaforSeaTurtles.
