Perfect weather greets hungry families.
With 13 food trucks on hand and just five hours to sample as much as possible something had to give at Sunday’s Outer Banks Food Truck Showdown at the Event Site in Nags Head.
And what seemed to give was anything approaching hunger for at least 24 hours.
The weather was perfect with some great music from Of Good Nature. A great reggae sound with a strong, funky beat.
The music led off with the kids from the Mustang Outreach Program. They have been playing a lot lately and they’re sounding better and better.
Local band Trick Fly had folks dancing in the aisles.. Ok, not necessarily aisles but all around he beach chairs that were scattered under the tent. John Wallace on guitar was laying down some amazing licks.
The music wound up with Fixity 5. It was a great way to end the music for the day. Acoustic and kind of country with a good dose of bluegrass. Fantastic vocals.
The real star of the day was the food, and it takes a plan of action to maximize how many food trucks can be sampled.
The trick is to go with a group of people and share. It’s the only way that more than three or maybe four samples can be tasted.
The portion sizes are, for the most part, not quite full meal size, but after three of them, it’s considerably more than one meal. The exception that we noticed was the lamb gyro from Mama Voula’s.
That was a generous serving. Luckily it was really good.
Two years running Y’all Eat Yet has been the biggest vote getter. And no wonder…BBQ-loaded fries, Shaved Filet Mignon Sliders with Caramelized Onion, Eastern North Carolina Pulled Pork Sliders with Slaw and more. Their home base is in Windsor.
The event was put together by Bearded Face Productions and like all of the festivals Mike Dianna, the bearded face, does, it was very family friendly.
