Huge outpouring of love from the OBX community to grieving family.
Wesley Belisle and his family were just visitors to our coast but they all became one of our OBX family last week. While there is not much good to find in the tragic loss of a child, the love and support brought to Wesley’s family by people across the globe was heartwarming, indeed.
The intensive search for Wesley went on for days before it was called off, but thankfully the Outer Banks Voice reports his body has been recovered, hopefully bringing some closure to his parents. An ever-growing memorial to the Wesley on the beach in Kitty Hawk was piled high with toys, flowers and messages of inspiration and love written on shells by locals and visitors alike. A brief service was held at this spot with the family, then the entire memorial was packed up for the family to take home.
“Authorities say the body has been recovered of a 4-year-old boy missing since Wednesday after he was swept off his feet by a shore-breaking wave while walking on the beach in Kitty Hawk with his family.
The remains of Wesley Belisle of New Hampshire were located Monday at 7:40 a.m. by Currituck County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Carova Beach about 30 miles north, according to Kitty Hawk Police Chief Joel Johnson.”
