Captain was almost 30 in pain and unable to feed himself.
Captain, one of the oldest horses in the Corolla Wild Mustang Herd has passed away. Almost 30, in pain and in declining health, herd managers felt he had to be euthanized. WCTI in New Bern has the story.
“The Corolla Wild Horse Fund says Captain, the old stallion that was removed from the beach at the end of August, has been euthanized in what they call a “bittersweet” decision.
Captain was in his mid to late 20s and officials say he was suffering from emaciation due to dental problems. They were able to make Captain comfortable by flushing his impacted sinus cavity and floating his teeth, but say the hole caused by his abscessed tooth was getting bigger and bigger as Captain’s ability to eat properly improved.”
