work on wright memorial bridge ending

Upgrades and repairs to be completed on schedule!

Overcoming a harsh winter environment, work on the eastbound span of the Wright Memorial Bridge will wrap up on schedule May 14 or even earlier. Writing for the Triangle Business Journal, Lauren K. Ohnesorge tells the story of a tough winter environment and how workers kept on schedule.

“Outer Banks tourists will soon have one less pain point on their beach trips, as work on the Wright Memorial Bridge is nearing completion.

Right now, it’s a slew of construction activities and delays at the Currituck-Dare County line as crews hurry to finish the bridge deck on the eastbound bridge, whose lanes have been closed since October.

But, by May 14, work on those lanes ends – meaning no more construction closures, though the project won’t be fully complete until next November.

“Some work will still continue, but it will not involve any further closure of the bridge itself,” says Jerry Jennings, division engineer, in an interview. “There may be some lane closures, but no complete closures of the bridge as we’ve had.”
